|
The Wordslam Youth Poetry Award Founded in January 2021 by Poetess Kalamu Chaché,
who has been serving as the East Palo Alto Poet Laureate in California since 1983, the annual WordSlam Youth Poetry Award first began as a Contest. Today, it is operated as a Literary Arts Initiative for emerging Poets to be seated at the Poetry table. It is offered to benefit Middle School and High School students who live in or are actively involved in after-school programs or non-profit organizations serving East Palo Alto and the Belle Haven community of Menlo Park. WordSlam5 is now open and runs through November 30, 2024. If you would like to enter one of your original poems of thirty lines or less on any topic of interest to be one of three Youth Poets selected by Poetess Kalamu Chaché to receive a merit award for your poetic work as an emerging Poet, please let us know that you would like to participate in this Initiative this year. We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you! |
Calendar Events Beyond your Literary Arts classes that you are taking in
your school, there are a lot of other ways in which you can participate to further explore your interests in becoming an emerging Poet or practicing as an established Poet. Please check our Calendar Events page as often as you can, so that you can know when events are happening and make plans to participate in or attend them in the future. If you see event flyers that you think may be of interest to other youth Poets, please send us a message using the Contact page on our website for us to include in the Calendar Events section of our website to let us know about your finding. Thank you! |
