The Wordslam Youth Poetry Award Founded in January 2021 by Poetess Kalamu Chaché, who has been serving as the East Palo Alto Poet Laureate in California since 1983,
the annual WordSlam Youth Poetry Award program first began as a Contest. Today, it is operated as a Literary Arts Initiative for emerging young Poets for them to be seated at the Poetry table. It is offered to benefit High School Students who live in or are actively involved with after-school programs or non-profit organizations serving East Palo Alto and the Belle Haven community of Menlo Park. The WordSlam Youth Poetry Award program is an annual project that is being offered by Poetess Chaché to benefit up to three Youth Poets every December. Throughout the year, Poetess Chaché seeks and collects up to three original, family-friendly poems of thirty lines or less each on any topic of interest submitted by today's Teens who are writing Poetry. From what she receives, three High School Poets are selected and acknowledged to receive an award for their poetic works. If you want to participate in the WordSlam Youth Poetry Award program, please let us know by emailing us at: [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you! |
Calendar Events Beyond your Literary Arts classes that you are taking in your school, there are a lot of other ways in which you can participate to further explore your interests in strengthening your poetic skills as an emerging Poet or practicing as an established Poet. Please check our Calendar Events page as often as you can, so that you can know when events are happening and make plans to participate in or attend them in the future. If you see event flyers that you think may be of interest to other Youth Poets, please send us a message using the Contact page on this website for us to include in the Calendar Events section to let us know about your findings in the future. Thank you!
