Founded in January 2021 by Poetess Kalamu Chaché, who has been serving as the East Palo Alto Poet Laureate in California since 1983, the annual WordSlam Youth Poetry Contest is being offered to Middle School and High School students who live in or are actively involved in after-school programs or non-profit organizations that benefit East Palo Alto and the Belle Haven community of Menlo Park. WordSlam4 is now open and will be running through November 30, 2023. If you would like to enter one of your original poems of thirty lines or less in the Contest, please click on the WordSlam Contest menu tab above for more information and to enter your original poem after January 20, 2023. We look forward to hearing from you by the deadline! Thank you!

Beyond your school classes in the Literary Arts, there are a lot of other ways in which you can participate to further explore your interests in becoming an emerging Poet or practicing as an established Poet. Please check our Calendar Events menu tab as often as you can so that you can know when events are happening and make plans to participate in them or be in attendance. If you see events that may be of interest to other youth Poets and for us to include on our Calendar Events page, please send us a message in the Contact menu tab to let us know about your finding. Thank you!
